Welcome to the Year 6 (Sycamore Class) page.

We hope this provides you with important information to support your child's learning this year.

What we will be learning this Summer Term 2024...


This term’s enquiry question is:

How has technology influenced our lives?


This is what we will be learning about in each subject area:

English: Character focus, setting description and dialogue (Cogheart), write a section for a graphic novel (The Arrival)

Maths:  Revision, consolidation and themed projects

Science: Electricity

Computing: 3D modelling - Planning, developing, and evaluating 3D computer models of physical objects

RE: How beliefs shape identity for Muslims

History:  Changes in social history from the Victorians to today – inventions. How robots are used in recycling. Early Islamic Civilisation.

DT:  Design and build a robot making the frame from wood and adding an electrical circuit.

Music: How Does Music Connect us With Our Environment.

French: Recognise and ask for snacks, giving opinion about food, numbers to 30, months of the year.

PE: Forest Schools, OAA and rounders

Life skills: Financial planning and road safety.


How you can help your child with their learning:

  • Use the Knowledge Organiser (at the bottom of this page) to help your child learn the information we are exploring in class.
  • Continue to read and sign reading diaries to achieve merits - these will be stamped weekly. Reading is such an important aspect in our learning!
  • Help your child with their times tables – Times Tables Rockstars.
  • Keep an eye on our school Twitter page to see what we have been getting up to! @NectonY6


Other things to remember:

  • We will be doing PE on Fridays. Please make sure your child comes to school in their kit for this day. 
  • Children need to remove earrings for PE lessons.

  • Hair needs to be tied back at all times.

  • Forest School on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon, come to school in outdoor clothes, bring extra layers and a change of shoes.
  • Please remember to name all school uniform.

  • Please ensure your child has a water bottle.

  • No make-up or nail varnish for school.
