Our Specialist Resource Base will offer up to 10 children, intense specialist education to support their speech, language and communication needs. Our SRB is not yet open as it is still in construction. We expect to have our first intake of children join The Orchard later this year.
In Norfolk, our Speech, language and communication bases are for children in the 4-7 age range who:
- Have a primary need of speech language and communication
- Have an understanding of what is being said within the average range
- Have been assessed and referred by an NHS Speech and Language Therapist (SALT)
- Need intensive speech and language therapy integrated into the curriculum
- Have been referred by the home school or pre school in consultation with the child's Speech and Language Therapist
A child does not need an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to access support.
The support available:
The Orchard will offer sessional placements for a period of 2, 3 or 4 terms depending on children's level of need and progress made. Applications for places in The Orchard are made by the child's home school SEND team in collaboration with the child's parents/carers. Children will attend four days per week, with a fifth day at their home school as this is where they will return when the placement ends.
The staff team includes a qualified teacher with experience and expertise in supporting children with speech and language difficulties, plus support staff and access to a dedicated speech and language therapist.
Children will access various inclusion activities as part of their placement with us in The Orchard. Children attending The Orchard will follow the national curriculum adapted to support language and learning needs. Children will have regular direct sessions with the Speech and Language Therapist. Children in The Orchard will benefit from the full range of learning resources and environments we have here in our school.
Progress and targets are shared between the SRB and the home school. Close communication between our team here at The Orchard and children's home schools, will support smooth transition between settings and the best possible support for children to learn, grow, and flourish.
