What we will be learning this Spring Term 2025...

What we will be learning about:

Our topics this term will start with Winter, the Polar regions, Chinese New Year, and Superheroes (People that help us) after half term. These topics will be led by the interests of the children. These topics will support all areas of literacy and numeracy and provide great opportunities for learning in the other areas of the curriculum– we also hope they will be fun!

We are now starting Phase 3 of the Little Wandle Phonics scheme. Children will be learning the following phonemes: ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ow, or, ur, ar, oi, ear, air, er.

Tricky words: was, you, they, my, by, all, are, sure, pure

We will continue to use Tapestry to record your child’s learning. Please look out for some challenges, which will be set for home. It really helps us to know the interests of the children when we have updates from home, so please use Tapestry to upload and pictures or videos that the children would like to share. The children love to show the adults their pictures and tell them what they have been doing at home. Some children have not yet had the opportunity to share anything from home yet, so it would be lovely if all children could have something to share this term. I would particularly like to see videos of the children reading their books at home. They are often more confident and relaxed in the home environment. This will help to support my assessments of their reading. Thank you.

How you can help your child with their learning:

  • Look at your child's letter bag with them, and help them to learn any new sounds and tricky words. Make words for them to read and give them words to spell.
  • Look at books together every day - both school books and books from home. Don't forget to keep keep earning stamps to gain Merits at school.
  • Play games with numbers 1-20 to help your child to learn to recognise and order numbers.

Other things to remember:

  • We will still be doing to PE on Tuesdays for the first half term. Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit on this day each week.
  • Please note that children cannot take part in PE if they are wearing earrings, so please remove any earrings before your child comes to school.
  • Reading books will be changed in our School library every Monday.
  • Classroom drinks should be water and in a clearly named bottle.
  • Please ensure long hair is tied back at all times.
  • Don’t forget to send back a pair of named wellies that your child can keep at school so they can make full use of our outdoor areas.
  • Children will also need a warm hat and gloves as the weather gets colder. The children will get muddy so please ensure your child is prepared for all weathers.
