Special Educational Needs
Some children and young people need more support than others to achieve their potential at school.
When a child needs something additional to or different from what is provided for the majority of children, this is special educational provision.
By law we take our guidance for this support from the new SEN Code of Practice (2015), ensuring that the insights of both parents and the children themselves are included whilst reviewing the provision we have in place for them.
We aim to meet the learning needs of all our children. A support plan is put in place for each individual child requiring special provision. This plan is devised by staff, parents and the child themselves. Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator is Mrs. Leanne Cryan. Mrs. Cryan leads this process but the emphasis is very much on collaborative working in order to best meet the needs of the child. Each child is encouraged to discuss their preferred learning style and suggest next steps. Children with 'Education, Health and Care Plans' (EHCP's) also have Annual Review Meetings to ensure we are fully meeting their needs.
A new special educational needs (SEN) website www.norfolk.gov.uk/SEN has been launched.
The website contains useful up to date information for parents and carers including:
- what to do if you are worried that your/a child may have SEN;
- what support children should receive at different ages and stages;
- useful explanations and how to access support for families.
The Governing Body publishes an annual report on the school's policy for pupils with SEN.
