Our Sports Premium Strategy
The PE and Sport Premium consists of £320 million in government funding allocated to primary schools, including **Necton Primary School**, to enhance the quality of physical education, sports, and physical activity through their core budgets.
Overview of the PE and Sport Premium
The PE and Sport Premium aims to ensure equal access to high-quality physical education and sports for all children and young people. This funding is designed to eliminate barriers, enabling every child—regardless of their background or ability—to participate and succeed.
Our school is situated in a rural area with limited public transport. Children and their families face challenges in accessibility to wider opportunities in nearby towns and the city of Norwich. Every child and young person should be encouraged to engage in daily physical activity. Current guidelines recommend at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity each day, or a minimum of 20 minutes for disabled children and young people.
Our spending has been planned to focus on improvements in those Key Areas (identified by the Department for Education conditions of the PE Grant), that are areas in need of improvement. We have used our grant to overcome barriers for children and improve their participation and enjoyment of physical activity.
Key Areas
- Increasing staff confidence, knowledge and skills in teaching PE and sport (CPD and training)
- Increasing pupil engagement in regular physical activity and sporting opportunities
- Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school to support whole school improvement
- Offering a broader and more equal experience of a range of sports and physical activities, ensuring equal access for boys and girls
- Increasing participation in competitive sport
Swimming and Water Safety
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- Use a range of strokes effectively (e.g. front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke)
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
