Forest School
At Necton Primary School we believe that outdoor learning enables our children to find a sense of belonging and allows all participants a chance to thrive and achieve in a learner-led enabling environment. Outdoor learning at Necton primary school enables our pupils to learn through hands on experiences that are purposeful and enriches our curriculum offer.
Through outdoor learning, children will become enthusiastic, resilient and determined learners. We aim to provide for our children:
- an increased wellbeing and encouragement to feel a valued part of the natural world,
- an ownership of the environment and it’s conservation and protection,
- an accessible curriculum for all learners to enjoy and thrive in school,
- purposeful learning experiences,
- a chance for all learners to reach their potential in attainment and achievement,
- inspiration for future careers and help them to find their place in the world.
At Necton Primary School, children will experience a forest school session once a week this will take place for Reception & KS1 at the present time, with the future to include all classes. This session will be run out of the forest school area by a forest school leader where children will experience using tools and natural materials.
Children will be supported in investigating the world around them, developing curious minds with an understanding of the natural world and a love of nature. Outdoor learning will be provided for Years 3-6. They will have 3 x half terms focussed on outdoor learning to enhance the provision of the curriculum.
Staff will be provided with CPD from subject leaders and experts within the field. Staff will identify meaningful and purposeful links to the curriculum to provide outdoor learning experiences embedded into the curriculum.
